New to the board, thought you guys could help me out.

93 Lumina 3.1 210,000 miles. Driving the car today, ran fine. Left a stop sign and car had very little power, made it about 150 ft then oil light came on, then check engine light, then it just died. All in all about 300 ft from the stop sign. I can hit the starter, but it sounds odd. All the accessories turn including the crank pulley when i hit the starter, but the engine doesn't move. Pulled the oil cap, no valve movement. Put a wrench on the crank pulley and it seemed to turn pretty easy. Any idea? I figured it either spun a bearing and trashed the crank or the timing chain broke. If the timing chain broke, is this an interference engine?

    Thanks

    RE: Dead engine

Its interference but it may not have bent a valve anyway. Sounds the chain to me, not turning the cam, not pumping oil, and the oil pressure sensor will then kill the fuel pump (or should). Gonna have to tear it down and see what damage you have though.

I'd say chain too, just by what you said about crank turning over, valves not

Yup, gonna go with a broken chain, or cam. Most likely, the chain.

On a side note...the 3.1 MPFI is an interference, Ben? This is definitely news to me. I know the 3.4 DOHC is supposed to be, but the 3.1?

DOHC is not except 96+ MIGHT be. pushrods are last I heard. It might depend on which puishrod though cause the pistons changed over the years. The dished 3.1 stock pistons may allow it to have clearance.

Can I get to the timing chain from the pass side fenderwell or will I have to pull the engine?
