  • anyone EVER seen this??!

has anyone ever come across this problem in a alum head 2.8L?>>>???!!!!

in both heads in the middle combustion chambers right above the valve seat of the intake valve ( on the side which connects to the exhaust valve side)

there's a freakin hole through to the water jacket!!!!!!!! thats why my compression was 125 psi compared to my other readings of 170 and 165 for that head!!! and all this time i thought it was the head gasket just finally went..i'll try and get pics up hopefully i can get them checked out... i already decked em .020 soooo unless this is going to cost me more then a different head and THAT machining i'm stuck with it

Ive seen a crack between the seats before, and a burn through hole on an exhaust valve in a DOHC, but never a hole like that. Only way to repair it is welding I bet, and thats going to take a professional to get that job right. I wouldn't recommend using them if you can't get it fixed either.

Does the hole really go into the water jacket? I didn't think it would come that far down towards the combustion chamber.

Wow.....thats odd. Never seen that before, especially since its not a crack, but more a pinpoint hole.

Yeah, that is goofy. You're not missing a chunck out of a piston or a valve, are you?

no, no engine parts are misformed :P.. not at all, and the more i think about it its just gotta be too much of a coincidence.. ie casting flaw

do i hope it doesnt go into the water jacket??? yes :P i haven't had it pressure tested yet but i'm almost positive unless the head gasket was just blown as well.. ( water system pressurized BIG time ) there is a hole.. now another issue i have is that (if it IS a hole) that there is a possiblilty that it might not show up on a pressure test.. but needs heat in order for it to start leaking.

*sighs* all i can think about right now is my 3.1/3400 hybrid =/

dont you still have one good head from your other motor you can slap on there till your hybrid is done??? i wouldnt want to put that back on, even if it checks out ok. it can will become a hot spot and can cause detonation, and may torch it right through inot a water jacket.
