NO DO NOT EVER CUT THESE GASKETS, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS. Pull the tubes and then reinstall them. There is no adjustment just tighten to 18LBS.

You do not apply sealent to the gaskets. Just apply it to eack end of the block. Extend the bead 1/4" up the head on the top and bottom of the gasket. Some may suggest that you apply sealer around the water jacket. If you decide to go ahead and do it on the top and bottom.

yes for sure do not cut the gaskets
and do not put sealant on the gaskets its defeates the seal of the gaskets
plus you will not have to adjust the lash in this instance ususally that is only when you are first building a motor

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who helped me with this.

I'm putting the engine back together, so hopefully by tomorrow, I'll be able to drive it and see if I've gotten lucky and follow all the directions I've been given.

I think I've managed to do everything right (thanks to everyone here), so hopefully it will work out.

Remember to torque the manifold right. Use the new specs and do it in the right sequence. That is the most critical part of this job. Also use brake cleaner or acetone to clean the manifold, block and heads before you apply silicone. Any oil on these parts will inhibit the sealing of the silicone.

            Thanks for all your help.

I got it all put back together today, and it ran fine. We'll see in the next few days if that was everything that was needed (hopefully).

You used a torque wrench right?

Yes, and I followed the specs.

I know that I went into this job knowing next to nothing, but I am not that dumb.
