  • Pulling lifters - does rotation direction matter

    OK,

I was thinking about pulling the lifters and giving them a good cleaning since I got water in the oil. The question is these roller lifters have been going 190,000 miles in one direction, will it matter if I put them in "Backward"? I will make sure the lifter stays matched to the cylinder and valve but I will not be able to pull and clean them if direction matters.

    Thanks

Unless the valvetrain looks messy I would leave them. I cannot remember off the top of my head but arent the guides for the lifter D shaped so you cannot put them in backwards?

No, the lifters could go in either way. they are just flat on each side for the anti rotation bars. Wont matter anyways. Roller lifters do not wear to specific camshaft lobes. This is why you can reuse Lifters on a Roller cam.

Yea I guess you cant wish for everything

Ohwell Colin is right roller lifter can be reused. I would try your best to keep them where they are. Just do one at a time and use a scribe to mark which side points at the cam. Be sure to scribe on an insignificant part of the lifter.

Or use a Sharpie to mark it. Just make sure not to clean off the mark!

Which is why I suggested the scribe. Solvent will most likely remove the sharpie mark
