  • Haynes says replace valve cover gaskets - should I ??

    OK,

I took off the valve covers because I had to remove my intake manifold. They look like they are in really good shape, should I replace them or just put a little RTV on both sides before reinstalling? They did not leak before and they seem really flexable still.

    Thanks

I reuse them all the time. You can replace them if they do leak without too much trouble. If you RTV both sides, you wont be able to use them again if you pull them off 1 more time. It is best to replace them but honestly, I have used them over 6 times pulling them off without any issues.

I always replace mine when I take them off. The couple of times Ive tried to reuse the old gasket, its always stretched out too much to fit back in the grooves. Plus, they are only like $11 for the set. No RTV
