  • Problems with Starting...

Ok, I can not figure out why my car will not start. I changed the '00 3.4 fuel injectors out, switched the fuel pressure regulator, it has the 3.1's coils and module, all of it is connected correctly, but the car will not start unless I give it some gas. And then I doesn't want to idle correctly, you know, it's supposed to idle at around 1000 - 1100 rpms at first them drop down to normal, well it just wants to start idling at 500 rpms, and fluxuate up and down. I can't figure it out, you think it's a sensor or something else?

That sounds like an IAC problem most likely. Might pull that out and see if it cycles when you turn the ignition on.

I think you are right. Do you know how much a new IAC costs, and do you think it would matter if I used one from the '00 or the '95?

IAC's are ~$25 I think. And as far as I know, they are all the same. To make sure, you can just go to www.acdelco.com and look up the 2 different years and see if they are the same part number.

My car ran like crap and it was the IAC. I just cleaned it with TB cleaner (and soaked it in gas), then it was fine. You very well might not need to buy a new one.

I read up on cleaning the IAC, and I used some carb cleaner, but to no luck. So I assume that its bad. Thanks for the help guys. And yeah, the '00 and the '95 have the same IAC valve part numbers, so that's wierd, they both must be shot? I don't know...

Are there any fluid puddles resting in your throttle body?

Nope, completely dry. It has to be the IAC because I go in reverse and go to press the brake (hence letting my foot off of the gas, and TB is closed) the rpms will drop to about 250 - 400 and then it will stall most of the time. It even did it at an intersection when I was rolling to start across it(no foot on the gas again, cause I just gave it a little to move it foward a tad)! So I am going to buy a new IAC and see what that does.
