  • Flat Spot during initial acceration?

    I have a 95 grand prix 3100.

when i'm at a full stop and start to press on the gas the car hesistes. that is the only time it does it. the rest of the powerband is just fine. even sometimes when i'm coasting and the rpms drop to 1000 and i press on the gas it hesistes.
its a slight hesistation and then quickly starts to go just fine.

    why is this happening?

recent mods: rsm throttlebody... i don't believe i was having the problem when i got it installed. it seemed like a few months later it started to happen.

I tried cleaning the TPS once... Just made things even worse. I think you can get one for maybe $20.

Timing chain will stretch sometimes...and if its a cloyes double roller, it will stretch in record time. That won't cause hesitation though...unless its pretty damn bad:P

Not gonna clean it, just replace it.

Yea htere is nothing to clean. Test it for flat spots using a multimeter, an analogue one works best for this. If you see any just fire it in the garbage and go get a new one.

Yeah, its just a potentiometer (I guess), so there's nothing to clean. Plus, if you take it off, you'll see there's nothing to it

Clean out your intake manifold. Heavy carbon build up can cause lots of problems, including hesitation.

So can a leaking EGR. The TPS is usually the culprit though, and the multimeter will tell you for sure.

won't heavy carbon build up kill my acceleration?

i had the same problem. but since i've installed my EGR adapter plate and digital EGR on my 2002 3100, the problem seems to have gone away.
