  • Still a b*tch to start....

Grrr.. lol Anyways, my car is hard to start again. I just had it fixed 9 months ago. Before it was the IAC valve was always closed becuase the ECU was set for WOT all the time. But now I look like a retard trying 2 or 3 times to start the bastard.

And once it finally wants to start, I barely wants to! The rpms will dip really low to a little less than 500 rpms sometimes lower. It will bob up and down a bunch then level out after a little reving, or just letting it sit. May be it's the IAC agian?? I just want it to start up soon as I turn the key.

I know I seem to have this problem quite often...
    Any ideas?

My truck does the same thing, of course, its a Ford so I suppose that explains that problem. As for yours, maybe the intake manifold gaskets are bad. If they leak, the car will rev up and down like that until the gasket warms up and expands.

i had to change the oil pressure sensor and that fixed mine. i have a 87 blazer. the oil switch regulates the fuel to the carb and had it running lean. once it starts it runs fine after it warms up.

Well goatman might be right on this one. I have removed and installed the upper manifold a dozen times... I have a brand new set of gaskets, so I can try replacing them.

Or is there a better idea?

Might be a bad TPS. But I dont see why that would keep it from starting up quick.
Im kinda leaning towards low feul pressure though. When was that feul filter replaced last? How long since it has had a tune up?

I changed out the fuel filter last summer, but I have do hacking and cutting to the fuel lines to do it... The metal end of the fuel line permantly rust-welded the filter to the line.So I had to cut it. In place of the cut line, I used rubber hosing, the same kind for the coolant piping. One time it came off... Now that sucked, so I made it longer and fit it more over the metal piping so it wont come off.
I can hear the fuel pump really good, sounds strong every time.
As for the TPS, I don't know...
I have had the IAC replaced muliple times. The last time I brought into a shop and they fixed the problem by fixing a setting in the ECU.
I haven't had it tuned for a while, since the last time was fixed for the IAC.

I mentioned this problem before but, everytime I press the brake, the lights dim and you can see the current in the car sag for about half a second. A lot of times when I press the brake the RPMS will bounce up a couple of hundred rpms, and then return to normal. There has to be a vacuum leak, be I can not find it. So I assume thats the reason for the hard starts.
