  • Thanks guys but now this ??

Well I tore into the GP today to search for my problem with it stalling or near stalling with all the tips you guys had given me. (Thanks again) and found out that my plugs where beat to S*^t. So, and get this after going to four yes FOUR parts stores I finally found the plugs! So my question is now what is the easiest way to get to the rear plugs to change them, I am also going to change the 02 sensor while I am back there also. Any tips or tricks to that while I am doing the plugs??

You certainly need to rock the engine forward -- I haven't looked at the 3100 that hard, but the 3.1L that preceded it has a "slave hole" you can attach the engine torque strut bolts through to hold the engine away from the firewall -- just enough room to get to the rear plugs (with a long socket extension) and O2.

I have no problem going back and doing it blind. You just gotta feel your way around. Always start the plug by hand or you risk cross threading it.

Judging from his avatar, he might have a 3.4L TDC.

        Is it a 3.4 or 3.1?

Since this started out with a car other than the one shown in his avatar, and it's in the pushrod section, I'll assume it's a 3.1 or 3100 unless he says otherwise. So what exactly is it?

To answer all your questions I actually own 3 W-bodies

            1) 91 Z34 Red / Grey Interior 3.4 Auto
            2) 92 Z34 Blk / Maroon Interior 3.4 Auto
            3) 94 GP Green / Tan Interior 3100 Auto This is the one I was having problems with, and just put the plugs in. And so far so good, runs much better.

The easiest way is to just reach behind. The Last time I changed the plugs I couldn't rock the motor forward, so I just squeezed back there.

BTW: Just Run the AC Delco's?? I know that other brands are crap for this motor (3100).....

The 3100's arent too bad. It helps alot if you remove the coils and ignition module along with the evaporative emissions purge solenoid. I have absolutely no problem reaching down the back of my hybrid with that stuff removed.

Glad to see that you solved your problem!

I did my rear plugs with ease. I MAY have unbolted the DIS and set it aside, not too sure, but regardless it took half the time that it would have with a 3.1L gen-2

                    Problems Back

Ok so I drove the car for a day with no problems. Now all the sudden the problem is back (not as bad) but back ! WTF ? I'd hate to go sensor guessing and spend a ton of money that I dont need to in trying to correct this problem. What next ?

It is a lot easier on the 3100's. The plenum doesn't go so far back. My 3.1 plenum was about two inches from hitting the firewall in the back and there was definately no room to get back there without rocking the engine forward a lot. With the 3100 topend (and no coils or anything back there) I can reach my hand back there and change the plugs without rocking the engine forward, although it helps a lot to rock it.
