  • Hot! Hot! Hot!

I noticed every time I push my little v6 even "for just a short period" I could literally smell my engine as if I thrashed it all day twoards 120mph(which I haven't tried by the way).

It gets hot very quick! , I'm taking a guess when I say "I think it's my engine coolant" because from the outside it's obviously filthy and needs to be flushed but is it my "engine coolant" and if so what engine coolant would you recommend I use?

..I read some post on here about a 180 thermostat and it sounds like it would help.

IMO the green stuff is just fine, with a 50/50 mix with water of course. If you can't remember the last time you've had a flush, get it done. it is expensive($70), but worth it if it has been a while. A 180* T-stat helps of course, but again IMO it isn't worth it.

Does your car have a temp gauge?

Also do you see steam coming from under your hood?

Yeah it does, and it usually shows that the engine temp is fine and no I haven't seen any steam, just a real strong hot stinch from the engine bay. my 3.1 in my 90' buick gs was doing the samething so it seem's like the II gen 3.1 run hot very easy.

It could be something burning on the exhaust manfolds as well. I've had a few lines hit mine, and when they melt, it smells pretty bad. Same if you have an oil leak onto them. It could be so many things. If your temp gauge reads fine all the time, than I doubt that it is the engine heat that is rising.

I agree. I dont think the engine is actually getting hot. It is more than likely something burning off.
