  • 3.1 head gaskets, head bolts help

    well i just got paid and i'm going to be spending alot of money on my 3.1 'T' this week. first i'm going to need new head bolts and head gaskets....

    i am already set on GM head gaskets. i've "heard" bad things about Fel Pro, and i'm also planning on pushing 8psi boost. i just called the dealer and they are $30/each. kinda expensive but i can deal with that....is there a cheaper place i can get genuine GM head gaskets?

    what about head bolts? the dealer wanted $94 for the set!!! should i go with ARP maybe? where should i buy them? online?

    and finally the rest of the gaskets like intake, exhaust manifold, timing cover, oil pan, rear main seal etc etc....will Fel-Pro be ok? should i buy these gaskets as a complete engine overhaul set or?

    any help appreciated, i just need to know the least expensive way to do this. i'm getting my TGP heads checked for flatness and resurfaced (if needed) later this week; hopefully i can get to work resealing this thing soon. thanks again

    Well I have never had anything bad happen with Fel-Pro. Always been satisfied with the product. They are just at good as GM. However if you can some how get an employee discount you can get the GM gaskets for less that Fel-Pro.

    ARP would be great for studs. Everyone loves them. In actual fact you do not need to replace the head bolts. GM never says you need to replace them anywhere in the manual. But I could see why you would like to do it for insurance sake.
