  • EGR?

    Hello all,
I have a 95 Grand Am 3.1L and I have a sputter at 55-60 and in do some reading I think I have to "clean" the EGR valve. My question is where and how do I do this...Im willing to do it my self as I have done alot of the work on my car myself...I am going to be rebuilding the topend but not until the spring.
    Any help would be great...

Take the valve out and look for any carbon deposits on the valve and the intake passage. Scrape off the carbon and be sure the valve moves freely. Maybe run a little seafoam through the EGR passage.

i just cleaned mine, and all you really need is some carb cleaner, and a rag, itll take some time, depending on how clean you want it, i spent about 30 min or so, but it looks pratically brand new now, and it runs a lot better.

          Overlook

Do you ever think your overlooking a much easier problem.. your stutter could simply be as easy as diry fuel injectors or even more likely spark plugs/spark plug wires..

            yup, buddy, start with plugs.

My girlfriends GP, as soon as the car went into overdrive, at the same speeds u described, it would "chug" badly, once u kicked it down to third, and a higher RPM it was fine.
I replaced the spark plugs just as routine maintanence, and guess what problem went away?
