  • 2.8 Missing when warm

I have an 87 Z24 with a 2.8 MPFI. This was the 1st yr with the gen II v6.

When the car is cold it runs perfectly, no missing or anything. But when it gets up to operating temp, it begins to miss under load, but idles fine. Then it progessively gets worse till its missing all time.

What I've dome to try to fix this problem is: new plugs, wires, coil packs and got the ICM tested.

I've noticed that once the car warms up, it starts emitting some white smoke from the exhaust manifold/spark plug location on the front bank. The exhaust also smells a bit odd.

When I bought the car it needed a new rad, as the old one was leaking and I replaced it right away.

Is it possible that the car was overheated, and that the head cracked/ warped or the head gasket blew or something, and that it only leaks when the metal warms up and expands? I haven't driven it enough to notice a loss in coolant.

I'm open to ANY suggestions. Thanks in advance for reading this post and for your help.

Thanks for replying. I just put a new one in 6 months ago.

What would smoke coming from the front exhaust manifold region indicate? It only smokes from there when the engine is warm.

Ahh... missed that you said smoke from the front bank.

I'd pull the plugs and check the tips to see if you can determine if there is a specific cylinder causing issues or if it is across the whole bank.
