  • Engine idling issue

Ok, something odd. The other day I pulled up to the stop sign with my turn signal on and noticed that my engine revs slightly whenever the turn signal blinks. I also noticed that the engine idles slower whenever I use the power windows. Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be a weak battery or alternator?

Also, I am having trouble with the engine sometimes hesitating when I give it gas. If it matters, its a 93 lumina 3.1.

The hesitation may be a maintainence issue.

Gm doesn't put enough Capacitance into these cars.

I had a ripple issue in the voltage with my year old alt that I bought, so I set-up a simple 9000uF capacitance array. Some cars are different then others. Attatching caps in parallel to the source stiffens the voltage constant.

GM and many other conpany's voltage regulators arn't the best in the world either and will lag behind on current load even if the voltage is stiffened by caps.

Of course this could be a first sign of a battery that is about to go out. The load sounds as if it is going to the alt and not the battery, I would try a cap like 0.5 farad to draw the load more so to the battery. Try cleaning all Ground contacts from the battery, and clean any heavy gauge wire connector including the battery side posts.

I just had a simple load and free load voltage ripple and you couild see it in the lights and 9000uF fixed the ripple for me, but still get the usual dimming of the lights when I use the window. Using the blinkers are some what better. I need a new battery and alt soon anyway I am just to broke.

Sounds like it....NAPA will check it for free, and they are a lot better than the a zone kids. If it is the Nator, change the battery at the same time. And make sure it is fully charged! Jug is right, but we all aren't capacitorators. (Is that a word?)

we check them free at advance too. make sure you get an AC delco instead of the house brand or you'll be changing it every year though. and find it cheaper and we match prices.

???? Did I say that what is a capacitorator?

It's a person that installs capacitors. Capacitorator.... It's a Foxworthy thing. But you are right. Been a problem with GM for years. Ford made up for it with huge amp alternators. Dat's why the Cops use 'em.
