What should the bearing look like when they are in good shape?

Should the overlay material remain on the bearings when or is this just for break-in?

The reason I am asking is that I just rebuilt my '93 3.1 with all new components and after 300 miles on the engine I was starting to get a knock with low oil pressure which is excessive clearances, well I tore it apart again and the bearings are all down to the bronze. When I first got the engine done it had like 70-75 psi oil pressure then it gradually got worse.

And do the oil holes in the crank journals connect with each other, in other words will oil flow through the crank or do they just get lubed by being submerged?

This has got me stumped as to what is causing such severe wear.

That is alot of wear for 300 miles. Which bearings have the wear... rod and/or main? The oil flows through the crank and is fed through the mains journals to lube the rod journals.
