Question : 3400 replacement engine question

Hello sorry for the simple question. I have a 2005 Equinox with a bad engine. Has a rod knock. Can I use any aluminum head push rod 3400 as a replacement ? I tried looking in the articles section and Google but cannot seem to get the article section to load on my phone. Google didn't help.
My Equinox has no accelerator cable - drive by wire. If I buy a 3400 from say a 99 grand am can I swap all the electrical and accessories over or will I have to find a drive by wire engine ?
