  • 99 3.4 Venture Engine What year 3.4's can I swap

    Hi Guys,

I am brand new to the forum, so hopefully I am posting in the right forum and not asking a stupid question. Anyhow here goes:

I have a 1999 Venture with a broken camshaft and probably an oil starved block.

My question is what year 3.4's can I interchange with. I am willing to switch everything over to the new engine. Top end, sensors, oil pan, whatever is needed.

I have been told that only 98 and 99's would work because the crank sensor location is different. It would be nice if I could use a newer motor to swap with though. It would give me more options for finding a block in good shape.

thank you for any and all help!

99-2005 will work in your application.

Just compare timing covers for the proper bosses for the pulleys and then if your car had a low oil level sensor you may need to swap oil pans to get that back. Some sensors may also appear different but you can easily swap on your's to have the proper plug and connector. Biggest one coming to mind is the cam sensor, just swap in yours though and you'll be good to go.

Thank you for your help on this one! I really appreciate it, it helps me a lot.

Now just for information sake, would 97 and 98 3.4 blocks work as well?

96-99 are the same engine so those would be the drop in options. 2000+ will require swapping some parts like the upper intake and fuel pressure regulator and injectors (swap rails and injector wiring).

Why would you have to swap the upper intake? He has a OBDII egr so he can just use the 2000+ egr.

Injectors yeah I forgot to mention swapping those... Pre 2000 are the multec1's and 19lb/hr, 2000+ were 22 and the new pencil type injectors with Bosch connectors.

I suppose if he gets the EGR tube with it, then that wouldn't be an issue.

Touche.. It does depend on what parts are included with the motor.
