  • Question : 97 Lumina 3.1 230k Mile Tips?

I bought this for a family member I drive it near daily though.

Performs great, came from a friend- had him drive us in it and it wasn't too bad comfy car, felt alil low on HP but somewhere around the stock.

So what should I do it's had basic stuff wires, etc I cleaned EGR wasnt that bad looking but I want to clean deeper without doing the sketchy brake wire thing...

    To-do list
    • Royal Purple (What weight?)
    • Don't flush trans, replace with GM trans fluid
    • Stock air filter box with additional tube added (done)
    • Have computer code updated/send computer in somewhere

It has crazy clacking noises which I read is either the non adjustable lifters/rods/piston slap

after seafoam in oil, and marvel mystery it is a lot more quiet. Now on cold starts it gets not as noticeable in half the time literally from 2mins to 45-55sec as you hear it stop ticking all over. The PO runs 10w30 or so as told by his GM mechanic friend.

Lastly the fuel gauge doesn't work, what is best long term fix...brand new OEM replacement?

"Stock air filter box with additional tube added"

So you modded the stock air box? Got any pics?

5W30 might be better for cold starts. If it uses or leaks oil then don't waste money on synthetic. Just use a name brand conventional oil that's on special. Good filters make a huge difference in start up noise too so get something good.
