  • Exhaust gasket question

I'm looking for some info on the small port 3100 exhaust gaskets. All of the new gaskets I've seen have thin shim-like gaskets with a big sheet sandwiched in the middle (MLS gaskets). It seems to me that when I bought the 3100 top end, it had the usual MLS gaskets but it also had extras of those "shims". I'm not talking like one or 2 had come off of the gasket base material, but 2-3 extra per port on a couple of the ports (and the MLS gaskets still had them attached). I'm wondering if it's possible for me to get a couple of these to use as thin gaskets? I grow tired of the RTV I'm using on my headers blowing out (I really detest exhaust leaks). The PaceSetter gaskets were too chinzy to bother paying the price for another set. Or if I could get some of that graphite sheet stuff (might need that for the one flange connection too), where would I get it and would that be better?

The stock MLS ones shouldn't have any problems unless your flanges are warped. I should have some brand new ones if you want them... just pay shipping.

Gen 2 gaskets are more like the packet graphite/mesh reinforced style, you'd have to trim the openings to get the right shape though.

I'm pretty sure I still have the MLS gaskets that came in my engine kit (used everything but those gaskets, the oil pan gasket, and the cheapo head gaskets, which I swapped for FelPro). Seems to me they wouldn't work because they're shaped weird as compared to my PaceSetter headers. I know they are clearanced for the spark plug wires, and I know I still have to clearance one of the headers just so I can be able to get better access to the plugs.

I will look for my gaskets and let you know. I need to find my stock T-5 shifter anyways.
