  • Question : Now I need to replace my alternator

this was happening for like several months were I would hear some high pitched noises when the car was started. After the fiasco with the coolant temperature sensor failure causing the fuel pump to stay on and drain my battery now the alternator is making all kinds of noises. After a quick look I noticed that the power steering pump was leaking all over the pullies and serpentine belt. So I ordered a bunch of part hoping to get this all repair and running 100% troublefree before winter hits and temperatures go well below -20 degrees celcius here. I do now want or plan to work on the car with those kinds of temperatures if you know what I mean. lol!

What causes those crappy alternator bearings to fail? Aren't they supposed to be sealed bearings?

CS130 alternators aren't the greatest in terms of reliability... the 130D seems to do a little better, but i've seen(and experienced) plenty of dead versions of those as well.

IF you can fit it, the CS144 tends to be a much more reliable(and capable) unit.

okay I removed the old alternator and found that the rear section of the armature was worn, so it would wobble.

next the replacement alternator i got had a different +12 volts terminal so I had to find a bolt.

original was just a threaded stud sticking out, while the replacement was threaded hole and needed a bolt

          installed now
