  • Did my First 3x00 Intake gasket.. kinda weird..

Did my 1st intake gasket set on a 3400 Grand am.. Kinda weird, I have done a few others 3.4L DOHC, 3800 NA but not a 3400/3100... figured i would give you pushrod guys a hard time with your ass backward motors.... (thinking to myself.... Hmmm i have a 3800 SC and a LS6, doesnt that make me a pushrod guy now that the LQ1 is gone).

It came apart pretty easy, some stupid bolt hole locations but all in all it wasnt too bad. car had 120K miles. Interesting how the Pushrods run threw the intake gaskets... got it all scraped off and scrubbed up (inside and out). The rockers i loosened and tightened to 14ft/lbs+30* filled with coolant, changed the oil along with plugs, wires and PCV.

No leaks and smooth idle, drives well and good power when you get into it. Took me longer then others i have done, learning some of the tricks.. Im happy becuase i only spilled about a QT of fluid.

Just wanted to Toot my horn a little bit.

Coming up on 100000 miles with my 2003 Grand Am GT... no sign of any loss of the orange stuff, as of yet. I had a scare with the coolant light, but there is coolant in the reservoir... bad sensor? I dunno.

I am hoping I never have to do it on my GAGT, as I HATE working on daily drivers. I love wrenching on project/toy cars, but bushings and brakes etc on a DD irritates the hell out of me.

Im the same way, i dont like doing repairs but i love doing upgrades It wasnt that hard to do, just took time to do it and luckily i work at a car dealership so i used to shop where it was warm and not crouded to replace everthing.

So funny story, after i finished the car my co-worker was driving home and someone pulled out infront of him and crashed into him... I guess the car is damaged but not too bad mostly cosmetic. I was thinking if the car was totaled by the insurance company i might grab the motor (It runs very well) and try to find a Fiero to swap into but sounds like he is going to keep it (his daughters car) and fix a couple little things that were damaged and keep the $$$ for the rest.
