What does a dying fuel pump sound like. The problem I'm having is when I hit the gas the car will down rev then surge again and again. Dosen't do it all the time, but when it happens its anywhere in the power band. Once it 'catches' it runs fine. There shoulnd't be any vacume leaks, I already looked into that. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

It's times like these, I really miss the old mechanical pumps. Hell, you knew when they were dead and a lot easier to change. Does sound like a pressure problem, maybe a bad regulator. If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

I would disagree with the regulator. Usually, when the FPR fails, it richens up big time, and will either flood out, or just run shitty from overfueling. Not always, but usually. I would tend to agree with the pump. I've been in that situation a couple times.\"NASCAR is an integral part of my life. A part of me died when Dale Earnhardt died.\"

that what I thought. I have an adjustable FPR and a pressure gauge so ive been trying to keep the pressure around 44 but it drops when I hit the gas.To Many Mods To List, Check It Out At

Most stock regulators close when they fail, but agree that it can go both ways. A faulty map can cause irregular pressures, low pressure, and sometimes high pressures to the limit of the fuel pump.
The map acts both as a manifold pressure and a barometric pressure sensor.
The fact of losing fuel pressure from revving upto wot may indicate some kind of vac leak anywhere in the system.
When my pump went I got readings of 15 pounds at the rail, so I replaced the reulator and got no improvement, I tested the regulator with lung power and got no flux in pressures so I dredged into replacing the shot fuel pump and then only to find that the tank was full of dirt, in which pluged the filter, so I replaced the whole tank.
I mean the fuel was coming out of it dark brown.
I owned this car since 1997 and sold it once to a dealer, then he sold it to some guy that didn't take care of it and then sold it back to the same dealer. Maybe the guy that bought it had enemies. Anyway, I bought it back and that when I started have problems.I am back
