  • cannot find timing marks

Ok need help. Here is the background. Installing 1995 camaro 3.4 in my MGBGT. The engine has been rebuilt and converted from FI to Carburetion. Of course, this meant changes to the front end of the engine: removal of FI parts, moving alternator to the left side, ect. I have reused the original balancer but I cannot find where the timing marks should go, or where they were to be honest. I am assuming the timing groove on the balancer is exactly at the top at tdc....Comments? Help from those more familiar with this engine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

The 3.4 didn't have timing marks. The 2.8/3.1 from a Camaro etc would have the timing pointer on the timing cover and groove on the balancer.

You can put the timing mark/pointer on the cover wherever you want... You just then need to find TDC of #1 and see where the pointer is pointing on the balancer and make a mark on there for 0... then you would have to degree the balancer though to figure out advance and such. We would do this the opposite way on the race car that didnt have a pointer... the Balancer was already marked so we would figure out where TDC is then align the pointer to the balancer.

I used a 3.4 Camaro damper on my setup and it had just 1 mark on it. I found TDC and made a pointer for it and then got the tape you can use to mark your damper.
