  • Oil filter bypass installation question

My '95 3.4 shortblock came bace with the oil filter bypass not installed. Just where and how is this installed and with what other parts needed? I do not use the filter adapter that is installed to have the filter face aft...my filter screws directly into the block. Thanks in advance,
    Joe Gliebe

You just need to push the valve into the block. It must go in so oil can flow from the supply galley into the engine galley when the valve opens. You also could block it off. It is not technically needed if you are good at changing your filter. The only case where it would be beneficial under normal operating conditions is if you live where it gets very cold. On cold start up it will allow the thick oil to flow without having to pass through the filter. Once warmed up the pressure difference across the filter is not enough to open the valve so you get full flow through the filter.

Much appreciated, but do not understand the comment about the FRAM. I think I am missing something

Fram is junk. Well for the price you pay at least. Their best filter is equal to a Wix or Purolator but you pay almost double.

I would rather run my oil through wet used toilet paper than use a Fram.

They suck to begin with but have even more flow problems in cold weather.
