  • Cracked Alternator Bracket ???

    Hello,

I was reinstalling my accessory system and I cracked the alternator bracket in 2 places. The cracks were caused when I tightened the bolt holding the bracket to the head and run parallel to the bolt. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe I just tightened down in the wrong sequence or with too much torque. I'm not used to pulling out the torque wrench for brackets but maybe that will have to change.

The engine is a 3500 with an older 3X00 alternator (engine swap). I guess I'll be picking up another alternator and bracket at the yard because my timeline is stretched already.

    Thanks for your input.

Never had any issues like that with mine. I use an 01 Malibu alt/bracket on my Fiero.

Thanks for the sanity check. I'll just be more careful with the next one.

I'll add that my alternator has hit the trunk plenty of times from insufficient motor mounts , and the bracket and alternator have still not cracked .
