  • Question : Rubber or Cork Valve Cover Gaskets

Well, time to replace the leaking valve cover gaskets on a '83 2.8l. This has the sheet metal formed valve covers, which originally came with cork gaskets that harden over time. Bolt torque is critical for good seal also. Anyone have experience whether the cork or rubber gaskets seal and age better?

I like cork, but either is OK. You may find that the sheet metal is pulled down at the bolt holes and will not allow the valve cover to properly seal all the way around if you don't bend the metal around the bolts back into place before you put the new gaskets on. Larry
