  • Pulling 3400 Engine (bolt removal)

Getting ready to remove the garbage 3400 from a 2000 Alero and put my rebuild in and the bolt that sits right above the starter is behind the "engine mount" on the trans. It looks like I could get a socket behind there except there are trans lines going into the trans to the right of all that that seem to be in the way.

Am I going to have clearance to get a socket/extension back there or will I need to support the trans and pull the mount? Do I just pull the trans lines?

Anyone ever run into this and have any good advice before I go pulling apart everything?

I supported the trans with a wood block and my jack, removed the mount. I also removed the lines. It made it easier.

Well I ended up supporting the trans as mentioned. The motor mount had to come off completely, I left the trans lines in place but had to get my girlfriend to remove the bolt as the area is almost too tight for tools or fingers once the bolt is coming out.
