When you bumped it it created a direct short to ground through the metal stick fir the mirror. You would get battery voltage there if you checked it with a meter.

The lump on the side of it (where that stud is) is the solenoid, also called a bendix. It serves two purposes. Kick the starter gear out, and complete the circuit to the actual starter motor to power it.

If you were to take a screw driver and cross it between the small stud and the large stud on the starter it would trigger the starter and start turning the engine over.

Not a problem. I would rather take a couple minutes to explain low level electrical theory than see you take your car to a mechanic costing $60/hr for something normal for shorted battery, plus now you have a better understanding of your car.

haha well the problems keep cropping up. I've been having a very strange issue when starting the car the last two days. In the morning when turning the key to start, the car cranks slow, as in so slow it acts like the battery is dead. After a few turns it finally catches and fires up. Upon turning it off right away and starting, it fires right up no problem. I have noticed since its been raining a lot that on that particular day it had issues starting the whole day while today, after sitting overnight and it being dry, starting issues are none existent. Battery is new as well as charging system all checked out. I'm thinking a possible ground issue, any ideas?

Check to make sure your cables are tight and check cable condition.

My 92 had corrosion creeping down from the battery connection about 3" down in the insulation.

Got around to checking cables and tightness. Both checked out. Strangely enough I haven't had a problem now for a week. Strange that in colder/wet conditions the starter could barely turn and yet now in warmer/dry it has no problem. I'll keep an eye on it. Any more ideas or thoughts let me know guys and thank you.
