  • Cali 2.8l air cleaner parts

I have a 1985 jeep with the original Cali emmissions set up. It has the e2se and miles of wires and vacuum hoses. I need a little help finding a replacement vacuum actuated motor for the trap door on the air horn. I have tried all of the normal parts stores and nothing it is the second vacuum motor on top of the air horn. The first one opens the EGR and the second one controls a door that opens a door that controls air flow into the carb. I figured having this would give me great mpg.

So you need the one for the warm air? It has a tube connecting to the exhaust manifold right?

High flow cat and a Magnaflow muffler

How would this affect your fuel economy?
All it does it help with running cold during warm up, which the EFE grid should do anyways.
My truck starts and continues to run on the choke at -29*C no problem.

If you really want it, junk yard is probably the best.
        Or rock auto

AH.. no the motor for the EGR is fine and in place. I have an additional motor that sits behind that. It controls an airflow door that opens and closes for the total amount of air going onto the airfilter through the horn. If you look closely there is a vacuum line plugged off and a discolered patch. I have seen a system with an air door in new cars but it is electric operated and and gives about 1/5 better hwy gas when fixed on new models from experience. This is a Cali emmisions jeep none of the local 2.8l in the j/y seem to have this I'm in NC.

That photo is very dark and it's hard to see what's there. Can you use a flash?
I see an arm that is held open with a wire.

Never mind, I didn't use the "+" because I left the mouse on the slider bar.

I will take some better pictures tomorrow. that wire is holding the extra door open. It is suposed to move back and forth with engine demand or something.

That is so strange. I just don't understand how that would be helpful. Seems like it would just slow the air down. If it was me I'd take it off and plug the holes.

Just for fun and if you can do it flip your air cleaner lid over and see if you like how the engine responds. Only do that when the engine is warm.

That thermactor valve just redirects incoming air from the flex hose behind the headlight to a flimsy tube that is connected to a shroud around the drivers exhaust manifold.
There is no way that is going to improve your gas mileage by 20% (1/5=20%)
If you keep it on full time it'll rob power and mileage because hot air is less dense than cold air. As I said before, the EFE grid is supposed to warm intake air and fuel during cold start ups so that thermactor is redundant.

Thanks for the discription. This is definitly not a thermactor it does not control exhuast gas. It controls the total air flow once past the EGR inlet. It still controls the flow if the EGR is warm and not on. I worked on a 4cyl compass with a similar system to control incoming air and improved the gas mileage buy fixing it.

Well my jeep is still running but I'm hoping to get everything back where it is should be. Maybe one of the older mechs from Cali may know more. This E2SE carb system is great when it all comes together.
