  • rough idle, smoking

Ok so i just had the coils and the icm checked, have new plugs and wires to put on.

What else could be causing it to idle/run like crap, and smoke all the time-smells like fuel...

also lookin for some info on the coil/icm relocation:
I want to mount them somewhere on/close to the UIM ... what should i do with all the wires going to the icm? is there extentions for those wires that are made for this?

What color is the smoke? White = Water/Steam, non-white = oil or gas

If it is white, probably have a blown head gasket or cracked head. Otherwise, failing valve seals, worn rings, way to much fuel (could be several things like blown FPR, leaking injector, bad PCM, failing o2 sensor......)

Wire extensions, buy some auto wire same thickness (14-16 ga IIRC).....cut and solder in, wrap up. No available plug-n-go extension I know of.

its black and smells like fuel so im betting its running rich as hell... i cant imagine the o2 sensor would screw it up that bad. supposedly has a new ecu. sat for about 3-4 months wonder if an injector is stuck open? thanks for the wiring tips, ill have to get on that tomorrow

Did the problem start with the new ECU? You might have an injector flow rating mismatch.....or a MAF curve mismatch.

What about a MAF sensor? You have one on your motor? If so, try cleaning the sensor wires (with special MAF cleaner only)

If no MAF, look for small leaks near the MAP sensor. That could register less vacuum at idle, indicating more air then what is really flowing. Causing the ECU to supply too much fuel. Or a failing connection.

It may be possible the engine is running in limp home mode.............visually check ALL sensors and connections.

TPS do not like moisture, they can give bad throttle readings causing an issue in fueling.

Since you smell gas, pull the vac line to the FPR and see if it is wet with fuel in the line.

An injector stuck open can be heard if you place your ear to the throttle body (need to remove intake) and have a friend turn key on but no start. You will hear a waterfall like sound if you have a leaky injector. You can try using a motor stethoscope to see if any injectors are noisy or lack noise during operation. If so, tap the offending injector w/ a screw driver and hammer carefully (don't whail on it).
