  • P1441 on 1997 3100

Hello. I have a CS with 3100 and approx 63k miles.

It sat for about 1 year in my uncle's garage. Not sure if the SES light was on before that, I wasn't driving it back then.

It has a P1441 code going on. EVAP purge solenoid purging even when it's not supposed to, if I understand it correctly. Being a cheap part and easy to access, I replaced the evap purge solenoid, and the code is still coming back. This solenoid is just behind/below the coil pack by the firewall. Two hoses come into it and one electrical connector. Wires/hoses seem tight and free of damage.

The top hose on the solenoid is going forward, towards the PCV. The bottom hose loops 180* and downwards. Are my hoses switched perhaps? I know the car had its intake manifold gaskets replaced at a shop in May 2010 and perhaps they reversed those hoses? But based on the hose lengths, and angles on the connectors, I do not think so.

I've read someone say to check the charcoal canister and its connections, at the driver's side rear of the car. Before I throw more money, thought I'd ask.

    Thanks.

That is also a failed gas cap code... Or rusted out evap line going to the tank and even possibly a rusted out tank, and or filler neck. Check all of those.

    EDIT
Thats P1440 my bad... P1441 isn't the same, but still worth a check I guess

I put a new $15 gas cap from the dealer on the car. Code has come back.

I crawled under the rear of the car and checked all of the hoses at the tank, especially those leading to the charcoal canister, no problems there.

      This is getting frustrating.....

You need to take it and have a smoke test done Evap check valve or solenoid may be stuck

I replaced the EVAP check valve, right next to the purge solenoid with one hose running between them. Erased codes, and code has come back.

This valve has 3 ports on it. 2 on the sides are connected, one is just a rubber elbow that is pointing downwards, not connected to any hose. Is this how it's supposed to be? Could someone check? I couldn't see any disconnected line around.

            Thanks!

Does your setup look anything like this?

Port on left goes to engine, port on right goes to canister and the valve on the right has a port on the other side of the connector that is just an elbow to atmosphere. I think you need to replace the valve on the left if you haven't yet.

                That is my setup, exactly.

On the left is the evap purge solenoid. On the right in your pic is the evap vacuum switch.

The top port on the evap purge solenoid (not connected in the pic) I have going to the engine... it runs forward and eventually all the way to the PCV valve with one connection in the middle.

The bottom port on the evap purge solenoid runs with a short hose to the evap vacuum switch, as in the pic.

The right port on the evap vacuum switch (not connected in the pic) goes towards the brake master cylinder area and then runs down and towards the back of the car, to the canister.

Thank you for confirming that the third port on the evap vacuum switch (not visible in pic, because it's behind) just goes to atmosphere.

At this point I have replaced both of those components with new ACDelco parts.

you application also listed a valve or purge on the canister itself... can you verify if something exists on the canister that is electronically plugged in... if so that could be bad.
