  • Bad Headgasket?

So I was running the car today a bit and noticed bubbling out of the corner where the head and block meet....

I checked the oil and it seemed fine/clean... nothing on the oil cap...

At this point I'm pretty damn worried... Is there any way to know how much time it has left?

I've been putting 1000 km a week on the bloody thing...

I've had a feeling something was going on there for a long time as it's looked moist/stained for a while... I've just never seen any bubbles or anything from it.

Car runs smooth and quiet once warm, good on gas... not puking coolant out of the overflow... no excessive/abnormal white smoke out the exhaust...

    It does not overheat either..

    Anyone have any input?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Yes thats a bad gasket at the water jack , it hasnt made it way inward toward the piston to get in the oil yet

Does the car need to come off the road immediately or do I have time?
I've seen some moisture there for some time (Probably 10-20k, never saw any fluid leak out though), however I had never seen it visibly bubbling...

I haven't had to top up coolant at all... haven't added coolant for at least 40k

Keep a close eye on your oil and coolant levels.

You can drain a cup of oil from the drain bolt and see if there is any excessive water contamination. As oil floats over water you will know if there is water in there.

You have time until it fails. But when it fails is some what unpredictable. if you can fix it sooner then later, I would. Especially with winter coming.

Yeah I'm starting to watch very carefully now.

I'm pretty much changing them as soon as I have the parts and help to get it done (May as well upgrade while I'm down there right).
I anticipate a week or two at most.

I would imagine you have a week or two, probably even more but it's a gamble.

Yeah.. I had no choice but to drive the car 4 hours yesterday.
Checked it a couple of hours through with no visible bubbling any more; it clearly leaks but it must be slow... in the meantime I'm pulling some of the best fuel econo numbers I've ever had... lol
