Positive battery cable started intermittently failing a while ago so it got replaced with a new one. Battery is an optima red top. I've so far never had an issue with the battery not being charged

With a resisting connection, you still get charged from the alternator and the car still operates if not severe. However, the resistance in the circuit causes more amps to flow to compensate for lack of voltage. The increase in amps produces excessive heat in the wires, both positive and negative.

If your positive was replaced, did your negative line(s) get checked? Suppose your negative side of the connection got cooked?

Did you check the ground system resistance? Batt(-) > block > frame > Batt(-)

Should see no more then 0.2 Ohms, 0.0-0.1 Ohms is ideal. Anything over 0.3 Ohms should be looked over.

I'll check the negative cable when I have a chance but so far no more stalling (and I've been driving the car fairly hard to try getting it to stall)

Well thats good, unless it happens again, lol. Intermittents are the worst.

Not just the negative cable but the ground system over all.

          Batt(-) > block > frame

All 3 should have no more then 0.2 Ohms resistance between each other. Some include the subframe as well. You don't need to remove the negative cable to test. Because if there is resistance it will show up.

Just another thing to check cause bad grounds, resisting grounds can cause all kinds of wierd issues.
