  • change oil light on...too soon...?

I just recently had the oil changed...about 2000 miles ago. Now the change oil soon light is on. It doesn't stay on very long after the other lights, but its there.

Why would this happen so soon? I just got a new intake/muffler so I've been revving it more than usual...but still, I have 1000 miles to go!
I may not be faster, but I bet i\'m louder

they probably just forgot to reset the light on your last oil change, just reset it and don't worry about it. at least that's what i would do!

What year is this thing? Because if it is an engine oil life monitor light then go chage the oil. It calculates a ton of variables and figures out the life of the oil based on thoes numbers.

If it is just the oil change reminder light then I would just reset it. There may be a procedure in your owners manual to reset the light.

99 Monte Carlo LS/3100 with 68k miles...forgot all that when i first posted, was on the way to work/in a hurry

I was thinking it may have not been reset, checked the oil and it looks fine (not like the last time the light came on.... ).

It probably wasn't reset, I always forget to reset it on my 1997 Monte, and then the light comes on around 2000 into the next oil change. The light does come on based on variables such as engine RPM and such, but I drive my car pretty damn hard, and I've never seen it come on in under 3000.

To reset it, just turn the key to "on" but with the motor off. Pump the gas pedal 3 times (all the way to the floor and back) then wait, the change oil light should flash and then it should go off. If it doesn't flash, try it again. Don't pump the pedal too fast or too slow, it's pretty sensitive about how you do it.

Is the light supposed to go off after the system is reset? Mine never does..I've let it sit for five minutes flashing before I gave up and turned the car off (engine was never on, just key to 'on') and I always get the light for about three seconds after everyone else decides to turn off. Maybe I just got a crapped out pcm
