Yup... PSI was usually pretty stable.... weird man... but the car is back to normal now (well relatively, still some problems that I was experiencing before... car is showing way too much adv... up to 58 deg.... it's tuned to much less then that and it was normal until a couple of months ago... not sure whatsup).

I got new ones about 2 months ago but I may try this to see what happens...will this also identify coils that are on the way to being bad?

Could be timing chain jumped one gear notch back. Would retard the timing and cause the exhaust to be quieter since the exhaust valve would open later in the cycle. Though intermitent I would guess electronic issue.

Bad spark cables, bad battery cables/connections, failing TPS, etc

Ended up being a bad CAT!
          It happened twice.

I patched up all of the vac and exhaust leaks, got her re-tuned and she's back to beastly.
Although the timing is still off (when you have it reting to run stoich or close all the time I get tonnes of knock, had to add timing to get rid of knock).

Could be a rattle/exhaust touching something?
I think my crank sensor needs changed as well (I get an oscillation almost like the signal during accel + the 1-2 shift aint right... buddy had the same symptom, changed his and it went away so I'll give it a go as well!).

          Thanks,

          Mike

Adding timing to get rid of knock doesn't sound right. Usually it's retard the timing or add fuel, I thought.

What timing tables did you start with? And you do know there are multiple tables in the bin that will alter the "good fuel spark table" right?

I could have mis-interpreted it... I was speaking out of verbatum...
All I know is that he did get rid of the knock.

Not sure what tables he did or didn't use..

Also got some sort of rattle going now too... sounds like the exhaust (I'm getting a shit tonne of movement in the CAT & flex pipe for some reason...).

                Should I be concerned?

Depends, you might be dumping fumes into your engine bay/cab. Exhaust easily rises into the cab and months of exposure is really terrible for your health.

                    Well,

Before there was a distinct exhaust scent in the cab... I remember it would make me feel like crap to drive it.
Now, there's a scent, but not out of the vents... don't really smell it while driving.

You do however smell it if you pop the hood and sit there...sometimes... it's almost intermittent.... like it may be coming from the EGR or something??
However I know whatever it is, it isn't pre O-2 as that's functinoing properly (not as if it's getting unmetered air like before).

                    Bloody headers...

intermittent fumes sounds like it could be a carbon cannister issue.

Is that the thing on the drivers side near the EGR??
Thats where I'm getting the smell...

the purge valve is actually right next to the EGR.... it could be. should have 2(i think) vacuum lines running to it, one that runs to the engine, the other runs back towards the carbon cannister itself.

I'll have to look into that now...
