  • definitive rocker torque spec 03 3.1 Malibu

Just about ready to put the semi swapped motor back into the car. Used the bottom end
from a 98 motor with only 70,000 miles and original top end from car. Had the original heads hot tanked and cleaned up. Now I need the torque specs for the 8mm rocker studs. I have read a variety of specs: 189 inch lbs, 168 inch lbs, and 124 inch lbs with 30 degrees. I have an older book that goes up to 2000 and states 14 ft lbs (168 inch lbs) plus 30 degrees but I don't know if 2000 3.1s had the 10mm or 8mm studs. So for an 03 with 8mm studs and the blocks which is the correct spec?

    Thanks in advance.

If you go to the articles section (click on the HOME button at the top), then goto pushrod and maintenance, you should find the specs listed either with a TSB (that may be for manifolds only, not rockers) or the actual engine specs (use the specs for a 3400).
