  • Question : Installing Cylinder Heads

The mechanic wants me to bring in the car early so he can pick away at it over the next few days while I wait for the heads to get here.
He says it should be OKAY to drive it about a mile or two to his shop with the blown head gasket....
Is that safe to do? He mentioned that if it starts up its good to run, and I should be okay, but if it does not start up, then I will have seized the engine....
Should I just get a tow truck to be sure?
    Thanks,

    I wouldn't drive it...

It'll be well worth the $50 or so to get it towed there.

Its taking a chance. A tow is a better bet.

I ended up driving it down. It did not get hot, just a few notched above C, it ran fine. No leaking or anything, which was odd. I figured it would just pour out the spot where the intake blew, but it didn't.
It was a little less then a mile, as my mile marker did not change.
Anyway, parts are set to come tomorrow. I guess we will see if it did me any good.

Everything went well, it is all cleaned and ready to go.
I got the heads in today, a day early-which is perfect, and I should be able to have them in tomorrow.
They looked really good, I am very happy with them and the fact they were packed so well.
I will post results tomorrow afternoon.

It all comes down risk and watching your gauges. Driving on a blown gasket itself has chances involved as a cracked or fissured block can happen, or even a cracked valve body that can show up over time or right away.
