Hello,
I have two issues with this car:
1999 Lumina, 3.1l engine
First, I decided to tackle my suspect leaky f. injector(s) issue (car always hesitated to crank right up...like it was flooding), so I pulled the intake.
I think I found a leaker injector, so I replaced it with a new one I had laying around.
Car seems to crank up better.
BUT, while I was working on the injector, I decided to install a post 99 3.4L upper and lower intake (hybrid).
After the work, the car works, no codes and it drives ok. It seems to crank better the more I use it...seems to start right up.
I don't normally revv my engines, but I did it on this car to test the mods.
I hear a popping noise, like a slight backfire, on the upper part of the rev's RPMs. I'm wondering if this is an issue, any input appreciated.
Also...another ongoing issue (even before the mods). It's getting real hot here in the south. When the car gets hot from highway driving, I pop the hood to look at it during idle, it sometimes acts like it is going to stall and turn off, then the RPMs pick back up and it returns to normal idle. It rarely does this, only when real hot from highway driving.
I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to the rail, and it is above 40psi, but I did have it hooked up when I tried to replicate this condition, and I caught it fluctuating between 40-44psi during a temporary stall condition, so I don't think it is a weak fuel pump.
I replaced the FPR about a year or two ago, so I don't know if it is that. I'm thinking something is faulty when the engine gets real hot, possibly the MAP sensor, another bad injector or maybe a coil? Thanks for input.
