Hey there, I have a 96 Gp with a 3100. When the car starts up I hear this Knocking noise. I can not locate it. it used to quiet up once the car was warm from running for around 10-15mins, Now its all the time. But will quiet up under acceleration. Someone told me it might be the wrist pins, or a timming chain, ot the oil pump drive ( where the Dist cover is) .. Anyone have anyclue?????? It sounds like its in the pan. but the car has been this way since day one( over 4yrs soo far and abou t 50k miles later). Any help would be great... Thanks Greg

Its MORE quiet under load. Well it is no a bearing knock then.
Is it a Clunk Clunk. Or more of a mechanical chatter?1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

at the dealer almost all the 3x00 series motors have had a piston slap problem, and there are special teflon coated pistons. but the really onle way to get rid of that noise is to bore the block and get a set of pistons to match. sometimes running a thicker oil will help also. what you might want to try is flushing the motor with some good ATF to make sure all the lifters are free. I've done this mane times by running 3 1/2 - 4 guarts of ATF and 1 1/2 guarts of HD60 weigth oil. but this will only help if it's a lifter noise. hope this helps!2002 Pontiac GrandAm GT1
