95 3100 vs 99 3100

Hey guys/gals. My girlfriend has a 1995 Grand Am GT w/3100 with a broken camshaft. I located a 1999 Chevy Lumina that has a 3100 that has a nice motor for short money. I'm wondering how much work is involved with using the Lumina's 3100 in the Grand Am. I've heard that the 99 3100 is more of a 3400 then it is a 3100 and is not a direct plug and play. However, if I can get away with switching exhaust manifolds, upper and lower intakes, sensors, brackets etc, from the old motor to the new motor, then I will do that. What I'm more concerned w ith is whether this motor is a direct bolt in itself to the automatic transmission and to the car itself as far as engine mounts, and also other than a lot of PITA swapping of sensors can I use this motor in the 95 Grand Am. Also if it is possible what should I look out for. Hopefully I can use this motor since its real nice. Thanks guys/gals!!!

I would think you might have to use the sensors from the older motor as it is not fully OBD-II compliant.

If it has the same looking intake it's the same motor, you need to source a tap for the heater core plug, it's a 14x2mm tap iirc. That and a rear manifold, some mounts, and maybe the water temp sensor, and the fuel injector harness. If your doing the limg on the new motor just swap lower intakes and do your homework. If its a newer style (3100) with the none finned intake, you will have to do pretty much what was stated but you have to tap the intake coolant port, as the lower intakes are not compatible. Use the fpr and injectors from the new motor though. I had done the same swap a few years ago let me know if you got any more questions.
