  • Hose from valve cover to intake line

    I have a 1987 Chevy Celebrity.
There is a hose running from the air intake (engine side of MAF) to the valve cover.
It broke at the gasket. Because of it's positioning on the valve cover, I immediately thought it was a PCV valve. This is not the case. There is no valve and it goes over to the air intake instead of vacuum.

I've attached a picture of what I am talking about. (It's generic from Wikipedia and I marked the part)
I need to know what the part is so that I can get a replacement. I tried replacing it with some hose from a auto parts store but that only worked until the car got hot and the flexible hose started letting air in again. It wasn't a good seal as they didn't have the correct fittings.

    Welcome to the site!

To answer your question, it is part of the PCV system, but on that engine, the PCV is on the rear valve cover. So it is still a crankcase ventilation tube. Not sure you'll be able to get one from a parts store. Being as old as the car is, not sure I'll be able to get one from a dealer as well. Your best bet you be to try to find one at a junk yard. Probably not the answer you wanted to hear...

      Thank you!

      Thanks for the quick response!
I guess I'll start calling dealers and junk-yards.
Now that I have an idea as to what it is, I hope I can find it somewhere. If not, I'm going to be hose-clamping a whole lot!

This appears to be the part that I need. This should be the hose and I can use the existing connectors.
Could anybody put eyes on this and double check that I am looking at the correct part?

        Thanks!

Don't think so, as the engine it is showing is a 3.8L or 3.3L, not a 2.8L.

SO it turns out, the bottom half of the air intake hose, wasn't attached to the throttle body.
That was the leak. It was huge. I can't believe I missed that.

              Thanks for the support everyone!
