Ok time for those with piles of parts to start measuring....
Everywhere you look online 3100 replacmenet rings are 1.2mm x 1.5mm x 3mm.
respectively 3400 ones are marked as 1.2mm x 1.5mm x 4mm
Now I purchased 3400 rings for Roberts 04 3400 engine and the rings that came out were 1.2mm x 1.5mm x 3mm, so any and all aftermarket ones I could find would not work. Ben orders from Total Seal and can specify the oil ring size so I went with him rather than dropping $42 a hole for GM rings.
And I just found my old 2000 pistons that came from a wrecked Venture block and those were 1.2mm x 1.5mm x 4mm...
SO when did GM change back to 3mm for the 3400? is it in 03 like I'm thinking or do I just have a weird ass set of pistons? I did a motor in my Beretta, an 01 and I did both pistons and rings so I never noticed this issue, and may not have had it since it was an 01 engine... I also did the 05 motor in my 96, but never changed the rings, I also didn't note the size of them when I had the pistons out unfortunately...
So anyone have 00 and 03 pistons lying around to double check and see if I'm not crazy.
