  • 98 Lumina overheating

I have 98 Lumina 3100 new t stat new water-pump, heat is cold then the engine get hot the then the heat will get hot and the engine gets cool again, then the coolant is over flowing in the overflow, also flushed the radiator.

How hot is hot? 225F is normal before the rad fan starts up.

Since the coolant is overflowing I would say that either the coolant is overfilled or there's a possible headgasket leak. There's a smaller chance that the transmission cooler inside the radiator is leaking transmission fluid into the cooling system too.

You can check for a headgasket leak by removing the coolant tank cap and starting the motor. If coolant gushes out then you likely have cylinder pressure/combustion leaking into the cooling system.

It gets in to the red and the Hot light will come on, and the oil is not milky either thou so i don't believe it is a head gasket.
i do know that it the coolant comes out slow not really gushing. defiantly not coolant overflow cause i drained it after flushing and there is not even a gallon of antifreeze in it.

Did you fully bleed the system of air when you last did maintenance on the coolant system?
