  • 3.1 won't run unless 1 injector is unplugged

A friend of mine called and said his sons car was acting up. This is a 91 Lumina by the way. He said it would run fine and out of nowhere it would shut off while driving like you turned the switch off. He said it doesn't do it all the time, but now it got to where it wouldn't start. I came over and wanted to check for an injector pulse after verifying it has spark and around 40psi of fuel pressure. Well, apparently these cars are different from others because I have power on both sides of the injector harness. I thought this was wrong because all the other engines I've worked on has power on one side and the ground is pulsed on the other side. I was thinking there was a short in the injector harness, but I'm reading that both sides should have power. Anyway, enough of that. After I unplugged the harness, I had him crank the engine and it fired right up. I plugged the injector back in and no start. Unplugged it again and it fired right up and while it was running, I plugged the injector up and it stalled like I turned the switch off. What gives? Is this a shorted injector or what? I'm stumped. Thanks for any advice.

    probably a bad injector...

the harness has 2 pink wires with black stripes, one goes to each bank. those are your hot leads. The greens (back side) and blues(front) are the ground switched leads from the ECM's injector drivers. Each injector has 1 pink/black wire and one either blue or green.

check the resistance of all the injectors, should be around 12 ohms. Also check the harness for any pinched wires.

    good luck!

Thank you very much. The injector is replaced and the problem is solved.
