  • Misfire

    Hey,
I have a 99 grand prix with the 3100 V6, I have had random misfires for the past few days, I cleared the code and it keeps coming back I drove the car about 30 minutes and misfired:
    Cylinder 1 25 times
    Cylinder 2 27 times
    Cylinder 3 35 times
    Cylinder 4 56 times
    Clyinder 5 85 times
    Cylinder 6 4897 times

I have bosch double platinum plugs and just replaced the plug wires, the fuel injectors work fine. Any ideas on what it might be??

    Thanks,
    Brandon

have you checked you coilpack and you CP sensor?
a drop in fuel pressor can also cause missing.

No I haven't checked the coils but when I was listening around my engine for a ticking noise I touched the coils and got a nice little shock and was told that shouldn't have happened. What is the CP sensor??
      Thanks,
      Brandon

cranck position sensor. Sometimes the wires break on the them but the wire caseing holds them together and you basicaly get a intermitante short. I've never had to change one on a 99 grand am so i don't exactly know where to tell you to look.

No the coil shouldn't shock you unless your leaking voltage.

I recently got a underdrive crank pulley do you think that might have something to do with this problem? If I am leaking voltage at the coils does that mean a coil is bad? My friend also said that the bosch plugs are crap in GM cars and said to go back to Delco. I was also reading on another post about a knocking noise I have that noise it is not as bad but it is there, maybe that has something to do with this problem.
          Thanks,
          Brandon

              I second the above reply.

Bosch plugs seem to cause misfire problems in alot of cars.

Platinum plugs should only be used in cars that were equipped with them from the factory. Not sure if the newer 3100s are or not...

I tried new ac delco plugs and still the 6 cylinder is misfiring, I have decided that it is the valve, lifter, pushrod, spring, or rocker arm.
The newer 3100 have the platinum plugs in them.
                Later,
                Brandon
