  • Question : LIM need one more torque spec

I am finishing up on a LIM gasket project on a 1998 Lumina with a L82 (M) engine. I need the torque spec for the small bolt that holds the coolant wrap-around pipe to the top of the water pump housing. The listings on this site show a heater inlet pipe nipple @ 22 ftlbs, but I don't see this as a nipple.

The attached diagram shows the pipe and bolt (#7). Also I found a small bead of what looked like RTV around the top of the bolt and wondered if this was some type of thread lock compound or thread sealer?

I don't tighten that one by the book, but I do only use a 1/4" 6" ratchet to avoid putting too much torque to it to avoid stripping threads or breaking the bolt. I've never had one leak. I just snug it down good since there's an o-ring in there to do the sealing. I believe the bottom of the threads are external to the coolant passage there, if my memory serves me correctly.
