  • LIM to block seal 3.1 Aluminum head

I am going to go out on a limb here and say the LIM to block (valley) seal front and rear is only formed by silicon gasket compound. I’m I correct or do I need to look for more gaskets? Anyone with a preferred brand to use? Larry

All the gasket sets I've had came with a small tube of black RTV sealer for those spots. Just about any high-temp RTV will work.

The 3500s use an actual gasket, but all other engines just use RTV.

I thought so, but just checking. Looks like the way to do this is to tighten the 4 bolts that pull the LIM down and then do the 4 corner bolts that pull it towards the head. I saw the torque specs some place. Larry

          RTV varies

Black is the standard, many people use copper color because of a higher heat capability (not necessary for the LIM application) and then their is gray. Gray is used by many OEMs for valley sealing because it is a little stiffer and has better resistance to antifreeze. Check the labels.

clean the surfaces really well, i typically use black or copper.. never had a problem with either. 4 centers first then the 4 outers.
