  • 2.8/3.1 Idle Problem (?)

Ok...newly rebuilt 3.1 in my 89 Beretta...only a few hundred miles on the rebuild...stock rebuilt lower end, 260H Comp cam and valvetrain components, RWD 3.1 head gaskets, WOT-tech chip. It has developed a rough idle issue - cold startup varies...sometimes starts fine but sounds like it has an erratic miss, sometimes starts like it is lacking fuel and then goes to an usually high rpm with the erratic miss, sometimes starts with an unusually low rpm with the miss - it varies. Also, warm or cold, when coming to a stop and it gets down to a certain rpm, it goes into an idle that is ~730-740 rpm that seems to have that same erratic miss. While driving, its great - has all the power that one would expect it to have. All sensors are new except the o2 sensor. ICM is also new. Plugs are new with the rebuild and it has new Taylor wires.

So...i am drawing a blank as to what this could be. ECM??? FPR??? Both of those items are aged - ECM is 7 years old, FPR is as old as the car. I have a hard time thinking either of those as fuel pressure is where it should be and it runs, i think as it should, while it is being driven.

Thanks in advance for your help guys as to what you may think it is.

This is just a thought, maybe there is a vaccum leak or the ecm is reading vaccum wrong, everything you described sounded like the same thing that happened to my car when someone at the local high school broke my vaccum line .
