  • A bit of fluid? LIM leak?

    Hey folks. Well some background:
    I drive a 2001 Malibu, 3100.
I had my LIM job done at a GM dealership around 2-3 years ago at around 90-100 km?

Now I'm at about 145 km. The engine runs fine, oil is clean.
I have a bit of an "eyedrop" on the passenger side of the engine where the lim meets the head. Not a lot at all. Also on the right side, the same area; except there seems to be more. Especially wet looking is where the CTS is located. There is a bit of it on the transmission casing but not enough to call it a pool or pooling.

Initially I'm crapping myself; however months pass and the oil is still clean and no low coolant light or odd operating characteristics (temp is fine). I changed a couple of hoses about a month back so I topped it up and bled the system. I really don't know if its consistently leaking or intermittently; pretty much looks the same every time I check. I really wish there was an easier way to check coolant on these cars, the bloody reservoir is opaque

I'll get pics once the weather outside steadies (probably tomorrow?) and I can take the car out and pop the hood.

Should I be worried? This is something that appears to have been going on for quite a long time; the coolant loss (if that's what it is?) appears to be very very slow. Am I going to need to deal with this at some point (assuming this remains external and not into the oil), or can I keep trucking along? The reason I ask is because a LIM job is simply nothing I've ever performed or dared to try. I can do basic things; oil changes, tire rotations, spark plugs, etc but I've never torn into a (working) engine before. I've only ever worked on engines which are already dead!

It really pisses me off that I have to deal with this crap. I went to the (now defunct) dealership because I expected the GM techs would be using the proper procedures and torque specs; furthermore I figured they'd be using the new GM metal gaskets. I really hope these are and there is no internal leak.

Anyways, I hope I'm being paranoid and its all from nothing. The car has been performing fine throughout this entire time period and I'm always watching the gauges like a hawk out of paranoia. These damn motors scare the crap out of me.

Alright folks here are some pics.
    Sorry for the delay.
I tried to take some pics of the passenger side as well but was unable to get a good shot.
However over there there is much much less, just an eye drop.

I wouldn't worry until you see oil in the coolant overflow..or the crankcase.

A little bit of seepage is normal/acceptable and is most likely just oil getting through the sealant used where the block meets the lower intake manifold. In any case, you'll know it's a problem when you start seeing drops of oil or coolant on the ground or direct cross-contamination of oil and coolant.

Lol ironically the past few weeks i've been finding a drop here and a drop there but not a concerning amount. The level on the dipstick is still consistent
