Hello, I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 3.1 V6 in it. I just got done swapping the lower intake manifold out as the old one I had was cracked and was leaking oil and coolant. Well, when you start the car in the morning I smell gas and a lot of white gas smelling smoke comes out of the exhaust for a second then goes away, and I finally took it for a test drive. The car literally took off faster than it did before, but as I made the third turn, a loud metallic clanking sound started to occur from the passenger side then the drivers side, then the car died. I waited a few minutes, started it and it started hard and idled rough then the clanking synced with the tire turning. At idle, the car still sounds very smooth and quiet, nothing metallic inside the engine, just a loud rattling at the catalytic converter. What could all this mean, and do I need a mechanic to have a look at it?

Well, Ive gotten the problem fixed. It was a stupid alternator bracket plate that bolts behind the main bracket and somehow the thing fell off and fell right on the driveaxle, therefore making that clanking sound. But now I have one question if anyone can answer. I put a 1995 Lumina lower intake manifold on my car and the car really wants to rev high and go really fast, but im afraid of breaking the pushrods. Anyone know where I can get some really strong pushrods and rocker arms? Im driving the car at very low RPMS and Im afraid to floor it since its faster than it was before. If I replace the pushrods and rocker arms with stronger ones what else should I do for maximum performance?

You won't breaker either the pushrods or rockers, so I wouldn't worry about spending the money. Just enjoy nit!
